  • Overview

    Under general direction, the DBA Architect role has accountability for the implementation and sustainable execution of the NASCO Enterprise Information Management (EIM) Practice in support of all NASCO Processing System products and solutions.  The DBA Architect is likewise accountable for the value delivered through innovation, development and maintenance of effective Database Administration activities and their compliance to the enterprise EIM standards and practices.  Responsibilities include championing enterprise data management and DBA standards, policies and associated governance processes supporting NASCO Solutions Delivery, and communication with the organization, customers, and vendors to educate and drive adoption.  Collaborates with NASCO, Plan, and vendor architects and DBAs to guide data-oriented solutions and participates as a member of the NASCO Architecture Review Committee while mentoring Application and System DBAs and Data Developers.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Develops, advocates, and augments DBA policies and principles of the EIM
    • Drives innovation of DBA work stream to improve automation and productivity of database administration function across Application and System DBA tracks
    • Collaborates with the rest of EIM and ITSS architects in developing strategic solutions strategies solutions and Works with product and project teams to analyze and understand enterprise business drivers to determine business information and data architecture requirements
    •  “Sells” the data architecture and DBA processes, its outcomes, and ongoing value to the business and stakeholders
    • Delivers the principles of the Enterprise Information Management Practice in support of the enterprise business requirements and strategies
    • Contributes to DBA and data governance activities associated with ensuring compliance with the EIM Practice and through mentoring of DBAs and Data Developers
    • Oversees the evaluation, selection, and implementation of data related software product standards, and the design of standard configurations
    • Consults with application development projects and provides guidance and DBA support to deliver optimal database architecture and performanceIdentifies the organizational (skills, processes, structures, and culture) and financial impact of the DBA  management practice and reports to NASCO Sr. management
    • Documents and publishes all enterprise DBA practice artifacts
    • Performs other duties as assigned by manager

    Additional Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Evaluates and approves various emerging database technologies and their applicability/fit for NASCO 
    • Assists Project Managers to define and document scope based on customer / business data needs for assigned projects
    • Participates in Business and Technical Design Reviews
    • Evaluates and recommends data scope and direction changes during  Construction Phases
    • Represents  EIM practice to various committees (User or Work groups)
    • Creates and tracks project budgets for assigned technical areas of responsibilities

     

     

    Qualifications

    Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: 

    • 7 – 10 years of progressive experience in data architecture, application and system database administration, relational database modeling and design, metadata management, operational database management, data warehousing, and data integration (ETL)
    • 3 – 5 years of experience in relational database technologies required (DB2 and Oracle preferred) in both OLTP and OLAP environments
    • 3-5 years of experience in architecture and technical strategy formulation and alignment with the business
    • 1-3 years of experience  leading diverse large-scale technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments, including mainframe, Linux and Wintel platforms
    • 3-5 years of experience leading DBA teams covering both Application and System DBAs
    • 3 years of experience with SQL required
    • Knowledge of database technology capabilities, tools, and design patterns
    • Knowledge of all components of relational database design in a high-availability environment
    • Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting
    • Understanding and experience standing up and operating in a Data Management Office or other data governance body
    • Demonstrated experience in architecting an end to end Enterprise Data Management solution (Operational Data-stores, EDWs, Enterprise Resource Planning ERP, or other custom online transaction processing solution OLTP) including ETL or EAI as appropriate
    • Strong understanding of integration technologies and related standards (APIs, RESTful, JSON, etc.)
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, database management, or a related study, or equivalent experience
